The Law of Business

“It’s unwise to pay too much but it’s unwise to pay too little.

When you pay too much you lose a little money, that is all.

When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything,

because the thing you bought was incapable

of doing the thing you bought it to do.

The common law of business balance prohibits

paying a little and getting a lot.

It can’t be done.

If you deal with the lowest bidder,

it’s well to add something for the risk you run.

And if you do that,

you will have enough to pay for something better!”

It is wise to heed John Ruskin’s words. There are many franchisor FDD templates for sale on the internet; there are even companies who specialize in it. You can pay $1,500 for someone else’s FDD and try to make changes to fix it to your system, but are you an attorney – will it be legal? Is it litigation proof? Will it hold up to a Mediation or Arbitration claim from your franchisees based upon the way you actually do business? Does it even force the franchisee to go to Arbitration or can they drag you into court, forcing you to spend thousands on litigation costs each time there is a disagreement?

With Shelton & Power, you not only get a custom designed franchise system for your business, but we become your Business Attorneys as well as your Franchise Attorney’s. With over 23 years of business experience, we understand how to create your franchise system to be a profitable, manageable business as well.
