Married Couples as Business Partners: The Pros and Cons

June 19, 2015 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

There are several franchise owners who not only work together in the field but also in the home as spouses. This is not uncommon however if you do decide to work together, here are some tips. 1. To have a successful “family business”, it is important to point out each others weaknesses and strengths. You also have to pinpoint who is responsible for what. It’s impossible for both of you to be in charge of everything. 2. Make sure that you understand the business that you get into. Most buyers focus on the facts and the figures, this is important however, it will not make you happy. Ask the questions: Who are the customers and will you enjoy dealing with them? What does your life look like as the owners? 3. Know how to separate work life from family life. It can be hard to do but it can be done. Learn to take the professional hat off and make time to ask the easy questions like- “Where’s the remote?”
